Program Overview |
|
Nurses are sensitive and attentive to the needs of patients and work hard to respect all persons. But what happens when a coworker or colleague comes out as LGBTQ+? Or shares that they intend to or have begun to transition genders? How can we respond in a supportive manner? This informative and interactive session will discuss provider bias, policy, and important ways your facility (and you) can support your colleagues during this time. Share your own experiences and educate yourself on the unique challenges and opportunities for healthcare professionals transitioning and/or coming out in the workplace.

Key Take-aways |
|
After participating in this enduring material, the participant should be able to:
1. There are no federal employment nondiscrimination laws covering sexual orientation or gender identity and most states do not have comprehensive laws.
2. Despite increasingly positive attitudes towards LGBTQ peers, major disparities and barriers in healthcare and work settings still exist for disclosing an LGBTQ status.
3. Assessing our own knowledge and attitudes is the first step towards supporting LGBTQ colleagues and patients. |
